It will be coming with lighter frame and body, more spacious interiors and upgraded technological features.
2017 Ford F250 Super Duty – Use of High Steel and Aluminum:
The Ford F250 for 2017 will have a complete boxy frame which will contain 95% high strength steel. According to the company, this new frame will be as much as 24 times firmer that presents one. It will also be including FWD components, axles and drivelines along with towing equipment.
The new 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty will be using aluminum body panels, just like the light duty F-150 truck. According to Ford, new frame made from high strength steel and aluminum panels will help in reducing the vehicle’s weight by approximately 350 pounds. This reduced weight will be redistributed to other parts of the truck to increase its hauling and towing capacity, which is the actual function that a Super Duty truck is supposed to perform.
Cab Configurations and Trim Levels:
The 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty will offering Regular Cab with two doors along with a Super Cab (extended cab with four doors) and a Crew Cab configuration with four doors. For commercial purposes, chassis cab version will also be offered. This Crew Cab configuration will offer four conventionally opening full sized doors, while extended cab features rear hinged doors.
All these cab configurations will feature new interior design along with longer cabin, which results in more leg space. Crew Cab and Super Cab configurations will come with flat floors in second row, which makes loading large items in the cab easier.
Cargo beds will also be offered with lengths of either 8 foot or 6.8 foot. Trim levels of 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty includes XL, the base model, along with mid-level XLT model. Lariat serves as an upscale trim level while Platinum and King Ranch belong to the luxurious class.
While driving a truck like F250, the main problem could possibly be visibility, especially with a trailer attached. For this reason, this upcoming truck will be using as much as 7 cameras for helping the driver. Out of these seven cameras, four of them will be forming a 360° view around this truck, while another one will be mounted on rear of its cab above cargo box. An additional option of trailer mounted camera is offered for improving visibility while backing up.
Some common driver assistance features will also be offered by 2017 Ford F250 Super Duty, including lane departure and blind spot monitoring, and collision avoidance system. In order to offer better steering assist at lower speeds, a new steering option, which uses an electric motor, will also be offered. Multimedia options offered include latest generation of infotainment system and voice recognition from Ford along with a touch screen display of 8 inches.
2017 Ford F250 Super Duty – Powertrain:
2017 Ford F250 Super Duty truck will continue to use the current a gasoline 6.2 liter V8 or a diesel 6.7 liter V8. A completely new 6 speed transmission unit will be paired with gasoline engine. Even though power specifications hasn’t yet been announced, V8 gas engine in current model offers 385 HP and 405 lb ft of torque, while diesel unit generates 440 HP along with 860 lb ft of torque.
Both these powertrain configurations will be available in four wheel or rear wheel drive system. Towing capacity is expected to increase up to 14,000 pounds for diesel unit and 15,900 pounds for gas engine.
2017 Ford F250 Super Duty – Competition and Pricing:
The 2017 Ford Super Duty will have traditional competitors in the form of Ram 2500 and Chevy Silverado 2500HD, while 2016 Nissan Titan XD is a relatively newer rival. Recent update to Chevy offer improved interior and better styling, while towing capacity and driving comfort has increased with Ram. Prices have not yet been revealed but introduction of new technology might increase base price for this truck. It will go on sale late next year with an expected starting price of $34,500.
