When it comes to Heavy Duty Pickup trucks, GMC has evidently offered the best in class in the previous year. This season, their latest offering in the Heavy Duty segment would be the Sierra 2500 HD. This is basically GMC’s entry level HD truck, and it was modified only last year. But looks like GMC engineers already have some more upgrades up their sleeves, which are to be incorporated in this 2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty truck. This truck is in its third generation, and so is the Sierra 3500 HD. Apparently, this latter one will also come up with modifications in 2017. The Sierra 3500 HD is the ultimate name when it comes to GMC’s heavy duty offerings.
What’s new in Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD?
This 2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty is only undergoing a sort of mid-cycle refreshment, so it would be unwise to expect any grand changes. The platform and basic construction of this truck will remain same as its ongoing version. Of course, the 2017 Sierra 2500 HD will come with the three common cab options: Regular cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab.
The changes which are expected are likely to take place with respect to the truck’s cosmetic appearance. Which means, we can hope to see a refreshed grill with a new design; subtle changes in the design of the headlights and perhaps in the designing of the bumper as well. This goes for the front end, and we’d guess similar changes are taking place in the rear end as well, that is, with respect to lighting tech and visual appearance.
This model sports a classic design which offers an exclusive fusion of stability, endurance, power and performance. So the manufacturers are not considering any fundamental modifications for the time being. However, what’s on offer is a heavy towing capacity, enabled by an efficient engine.
The model is going to hold on to its aerodynamic design. The automakers are not keen on revealing much info about it right now, but from what we’ve gathered, it can be said that most of the changes in this particular 2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty truck is taking place inside the cab.
A qualitative up gradation is on the schedule with the finest leather upholstery being put to use. There’s sufficient space inside the cab and buyers will not be complaining about the comfort factors. Latest techs have been incorporated, which include:
- climate control,
- temperature level command,
- USB and Bluetooth connectivity,
- cruise control,
- audio streaming,
- cruise control,
2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty trucks shall be available in premium versions as well:
Both the 2500 HD and 3500 HD shall be available in the premium Denali trims as well. Denali variants often earn higher profits than the base models and they also offer a space for improvement. They’ve always been a favorite with GMC and the manufacturers are going to extend this version to the buyers of HD trucks in 2017. It goes without saying that the Denali’s come with all the features available in these base models and more.
2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty – What’s Under the Hood?
For the Sierra 2500 HD we are not expecting any changes in the drivetrain configuration. The 2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty truck will come with the same Powertrain which drives it at present and that would be a V8 engine of 6.0 liter churning out 360 Hp with 380 lb-ft of torque.
This engine is indeed quite capable but there’s also a more powerful alternative, which is a Duramax V8 diesel engine of 6.6 liter generating an output of 397 Hp with 765 lb-ft of torque. Both these engines shall be coupled with six speed auto transmission.
According to some unofficial sources, 3500 HD base variant would be sharing its engine configurations with 2500 HD. The viability of this rumor remains to be judged. However, what we do know is that the Denali variant of this 2017 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty truck would be powered by two power plants. There’ll be a 2.8 liter super diesel 4-cylinder engine giving 200 HP with 360 lb-ft torque; other one would be an EcoTec3 V6 LV3 4.3 liter engine giving 285 Hp with 305 lb-ft torque.
