2017 Volvo S60 Review, Cabin Design and Console

The Volvo is famous but not all their vehicles pass with a clean chit, they have had their shortcomings and for the new variant most of it has been looked after. Volvo S60 is one of the most well-known sedans from the brand and will be returning to the market in the hopes of reclaiming its customer base. The 2017 Volvo S60 will be coming with a lot of new improvements in terms of it engine and this sedan will be coming with premium design.

2017 Volvo S60 – Exterior Design:

The 2017 Volvo S60 is one classy looking sedan and there isn’t any doubt about. Volvo has taken the right decision by choosing to stick to its original style. In terms of exterior design, there are few minor tweaks that have been offered. They include new grills, bumpers, and an LED panel. Other than that, the new wheels are 19 inches in diameter and there has been some increment in the overall height of this vehicle, around 25 inches.

Cabin Design and Console:

The new 2017 Volvo S60 is to be made available in a lot of trims. Its cabin design and console is supposed to be the unifying factor, that is to say, all the sedans will have these features. Before going into the console, the cabin changes must be noticed. This vehicle now comes with adjustable seats, leather and wooden crafting, climate control and a bunch of safety features. Other than that there are features such as accent interior lighting, sunroof, and dimmable mirrors.

Console‘s main attraction is its 7-inch touch display where the infotainment has been integrated and features such as smartphone integration have also been added. Other features include Bluetooth, USB connectivity, built-in 8 speakers audio unit and last but not the least, a navigation unit with voice recognition ability.

2017 Volvo S60 – Engine Options and Specs:

The main changes that’ll be featured in 2017 Volvo S60’s are high efficiency and very high output compared to its capacity. It is most likely that this car will not be offered with only one engine option. This option is basically a supercharged four barrel unit of just 2 liters that can easily generate an output as high as 302 hp.

It torque will be 300 pounds per feet. All of these improvements would not have been possible without the government’s generous funding. There has been some increase in the EPA ratings as well and this unit will now provide a mileage ranging from 25 mpg to 37 mpg.

Second engine option includes an inline 2.5-liter unit of 5 cylinders that offers a comparatively lesser efficiency and power output than the other units is only capable of generating 250 hp and produce a torque of 270 pounds per feet. The EPA ratings range between 20 mpg to 29 mpg. Last but not the least, the third and most powerful engine option include a 3-liter unit whose power range up to 325 hp and has a torque of 354 pounds per feet. This unit also has got mileage in the same range as the other units. All of these engines are provided with All-Wheel Drive option.

All the mentioned engine options are to be combined with an automatic eight paced transmission unit.

2017 Volvo S60 –  Release Date, Price, and Competition:

The 2017 Volvo S60 was actually scheduled to hit the market few months ago but there has been no update on that front. Nevertheless by logic, it should be available in the showrooms by the fourth quarter of 2016 latest. As far as the price of this luxury sedan is concerned, it is a little more than its competitors but then it is mostly worth it. Estimated average cost of this vehicle is around $45k. Base variant of 2017 Volvo S60 is available for almost $36k and extends up to $59k for the most expensive one in series.


In terms of competition, this 2017 Volvo S60 will be competing with pretty much every Sedan that is available. However there are a few cars that are close in terms of specs and performance and will mainly provide competition to this vehicle and they include:

  • BMW 3 Series
  • Lexus ES-350
