The Audi A5 2017 was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year amidst a huge amount of raucous ovation for this exceptional sports sedan. So far, things have gone really smooth for 2017 A5, and it was an instant hit at the Frankfurt Show when Audi AG board official Dr.Ulrich Hackenberg revealed both the Coupe and the Cabriolet or Sport back that will be launched together. Audi officials are quite an excited bunch themselves, about the 2017 Audi A5 compact sports sedan for their 2017 line-up of the A series of sedans.
Audi A5 2017 – Firing up the competition
Already having met some its rivals at the Frankfurt Show, including Sports sedan segment heavyweights like the BMW 4 Series, Cadillac ATS and the Mercedes-Benz C Class, these rival line ups will be breaking more than a sweat over the imminent release of the 2017 A5 next year. The Audi A5 2017 will be a versatile sedan and a definite cut above the rest of the pack in its segments because of its superior build, features, engineering, performance and intelligent nature at a competitive price to sweep sales up across the market for its price range.
Audi A5 2017 – What’s new about the chassis?
The newly introduced MLB Evo architecture platform has been declared to be put to use for line ups of all brands under the Volkswagen AG group. The MLB Evo platform has been already incorporated into the Audi A5 2017 chassis, which would actually be a custom-modified 2017 Audi A4 chassis-frame. This means overall weight will be reduced by at least 100 kilos, thus effectively making it wider, leaner, aerodynamic, and more fuel-efficient.
Both the Coupe and Sportback exteriors will be fitted with signature Audi hexagonal single-frame grille which is flanked by matrix LED headlights. The fog lamps below will be fitted along with angular air intakes. At the Audi A5 2017’s rear end, daytime running LED tail lights and an integrated boot lid spoiler will be added apart from xenon plus lighting, LED turn-signals, a power trunk lid and power-folding exterior mirrors.
For the Coupe, there will be around 120 kilos of effective weight reduction. Like the A4 model, the new 2017 Audi A5 should have a drag co-efficient of around 0.23, which Audi AG officials claim to be best in class stats. The interiors of the Audi A5 2017 will be in for complete overhauls and would be renovated with the aim to elevate aesthetic and ergonomic qualities, as well as utility, safety, comfort and convenience.
In case of interior setup both Coupe and Sport back will share the same features including the Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, which incorporates Auto Drive Select intelligent and intuitive steering assistance that comes with an HD display with integrated dials and buttons on the steering console. This amazing console lets the driver choose from a number of different steering, engine calibration, transmission and suspension setting to get different steering modes.
An 8.3 inch HD touchscreen display console controls the MMI interface, infotainment, advanced navigation, parking assistance, safety alert settings, LTE, Wi-Fi and smart phone support.
Bonus features will be included that include a blind-spot monitor, rear-view camera, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. Standard safety features have been upgraded with intuitive traction adjustment, collision sensors and an impact detection and warning system.
Audi A5 2017 – Powertrain and trim options
Audi A5 2017 has been declared to be made available in separate powertrain setups for the Coupe and the Sport back. The engine setup for 2017 A5 Coupe will include a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder TFSI petrol unit, a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder TDI diesel unit, and a 3.0 liter 6-cylinder Turbocharged Direct Injection V6 Petrol unit with 333 HP.
Gearbox options included will be a welcome to all enthusiasts of Audi’s iconic list of a 6-speed manual transmission, a 7-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission, or an 8-speed Tiptronic dual clutch transmission gearbox. Either three will be available in Front Wheel Drive and Quattro.
As for the Sport back, only one powertrain configuration setup will be made available, a 2.0 liter DOHC TDI engine which generates around 220 HP. Available choices for the gearbox will include a Multitronic CVT transmission, which can give a fuel economy of up to 31 miles/gallon on highways; and the option for a Tiptronic 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox which is paired to the Quattro All Wheel Drive.
Audi A5 2017 – Debut and cost
Both the Coupe and Sport back editions of the Audi A5 2017 will be released in the US markets in February 2016, along with all other line-ups in the A series. Rough estimates for the debut price range should be around $40,000 for base trims and could reach a surprisingly broader range up to $70,000.
